| C-17 Globemaster III |
| The C-17 Globemaster was designed by Mc Donnel Douglas (now Boeing company) to replace the C-141 Starlifter. The transport aircraft is able to take off from short air fields. First customer was the US air force and it's currently used by active wings as well as Air National Guard and Reserve units. The first export customer was the Royal Air Force leasing four aircraft which were bought at the end of the lease period. More C-17s were bought by the RAF leading to the 8th purchase in 2012. NATO together with two PfP countries also bought three Globemasters. The participating countries (Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden and the United States) are allocated a number of annual flight hours. The transport aircraft was also sold to Quatar and the United Arab Emirates while India is considering to purchase the Globemaster. |
